Let's Untie the Knot | Meditation And Mantras To Help You Through Divorce

Divorce can be an exceedingly stressful time but there are meditations and mantras that can help you get through this time.  The following list includes some of our favorite meditations and mantras:

Find a peaceful passage:

This is the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (but any peaceful passage will do).  Try to read it over and over for 10 minutes:

Make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is sadness, joy.
Let me not so much need to be consoled, as to console.
To be loved, as to love.
To be understood, as to understand.
For, it’s in the giving that we receive.
It’s in the pardoning, that we are pardoned.
It’s in the letting go of our old ways that we are born to the new ways.

Basics of meditation:

    1. Find a time in the morning, during a work break or even before bed
    2. Get comfortable, sit upright in your chair, feel comfortable in your clothes
    3. Eliminate distractions
    4. Count your breath
    5. Focus only on your breathing.
    6. As you notice a thought coming into your mind, imagine putting the thought into a cloud in the sky and watching the cloud slowly drift away. This allows you to notice your thoughts from a distance and allows you to practice shifting your attention from your thoughts back to counting your breath.
    7. After several minutes of this, slowly and gently take another deep breath with a long, slow exhale. Then another of these deep breaths.
    8. Open your eyes and breathe, slowly reorienting to the room.
    9. Breathe, smile.
